In conjunction with the ROTC's Northern Warfare Challenge, we are offering a civilian event on our trails as well!
The Northern Warfare Challenge is the 3rd Brigade Army ROTC's event hosted by ROTC students based in La Crosse. The challenge for the ROTC members will include around 16 miles in the La Crosse Blufflands while carrying a pack and they will have multiple challenges to complete. Over 40 teams from all over the country will be competing!
The Civilian event will be done in conjunction with the ROTC event, but participants will NOT have to participate in the same challenges as the cadets. Instead civilians will run the course alongside the cadets and have a chance to cheer them on as they challenge themselves in new ways.
To run these fun and unique events, we always need volunteers! If you, or someone you know, is interested in helping make this a great trail experience for others please consider volunteering. There are LOTS of opportunities to serve before, during, and after the event.
The RUCK Run
DATE: Saturday, February 25, 2023
TIME: 7:30 a.m. - Cutoff at 7:00 p.m.
START/FINISH: Forest Hills Golf Course
DISTANCE: ~15 miles
ELEVATION CHANGE: 1,970 ft
The Civilians will start from Forest Hills Golf Course at 7:30 am and run approximately 15 miles through the snow in Hixon Forest. The finish line will be in the same spot as the start. This is the only difference with the cadet race where they finish in a different spot.
In the event that the trails are not usable due to varying snow conditions an alternate route will be provided, but distance and route are TBD based on weather. Welcome to winter trail events ;)
Aid Stations will be VERY SIMPLE. We will have approximately 4-5 spots on the course (mile 5.25, 6, 8, 9, and 11.25) with water that we will be trying to keep from freezing, and a few sweet treats. But in this event you should plan on being as self-sufficient as possible. Our Military counterparts are required to carry their own food, and you will too!
